[Euskalgeo.net]: Basque Country's spatial data portal is up and running

Euskalgeo, Euskal Herriko datu espazialen ataria

We are already using euskalgeo.net, the platform developed by Gaindegia to consult and download spatial data on Basque Country as a whole.

This portal intends, above all, to be a work tool for students, researchers and other professionals. Right now, the portal offers a basic catalogue (catalogue of towns, districts, ports, airports, etc.) that will be added to over the coming months.

An increasingly necessary resource

Spatial analysis has become an increasingly required discipline for social and economic study of any territory. You only have to see the ever more common use of GIS technology in the social, economic and environmental fields. A few years ago, the United Nations classified the statistical data on a territory as an "essential resource" for its wellbeing, now joined by spatial data.

Data on Basque Country as a whole for the first time

Until now, there has no platform has offered spatial data for Basque Country as a whole. Despite the fact that many official institutions have started to offer this type of service (GEOEUSKADI Basque Government, Gipuzkoa Local Government or IDENA  by the Government of Navarra), this has been done independently. Consequently, until now it has been very difficult to do any research from a country perspective, given that unified data for Basque Country did not exist.

For all these reasons, Gaindegia has developed this portal, also offering open data. Gaindegia will continually update this data and map new points of interest.
